The Scott Family have owned and farmed Inchmurrin Island for over 70 years, and welcome you to their three self-catering apartments and cottage, and also their restaurant and bar. This is the real Loch Lomond where traditional hospitality and the gentler pursuits of life still count. Loch Lomond is the largest and one of the loveliest lochs in Scotland. About 23 miles long, it has many small islands of which Inchmurrin is the largest at about one and a half miles long. It is idyllic and quiet. The total number of residents on the island are: 10 people, one horse, one dog, a herd of 30 beef cattle, a few goats and quite a lot of pheasants! Inchmurrin is named after St Mirren who is believed to have founded a monastery on the island in the 6th century. The ruins can still be seen, as also can the ruins of the castle built by the Earls of Lennox. It was visited by Robert the Bruce, James IV in 1506, 21 year old Mary Queen of Scots in 1563, and later by James VI. When you come to stay on Inchmurrin Island you have the freedom to roam and explore. There are many lovely walks, and safe beaches for swimming.
The ferry runs by arrangement from Burnfoot in Arden, just off the A82.Cost is £3.00 per person return.
