There are fabulous walking and cycling routes, and a short drive away are the market towns of Helmsley, Kirbymoorside, Thirsk and Pickering, where the North York Moors steam railway will take you over the moors to Goathland, home of Heartbeat. Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough and Flamingoland are all easily accessible and York is only a 45 minute drive away.
